Objective:

A sky-bus system was to be constructed in a major metropolis. The RCC and steel structure was to have a 2 compartment movable carriage suspended under it. Static and Transient Dynamic Analysis of the sky bus system was to be carried out for conditions like; with/ without the carriage and for loads due to wind, earthquake, live loads and moving loads.

Methodology:

The structure was idealized in two ways. In the first stage a grillage model using beam elements was adopted to arrive at the preliminary dimensions for the sky bus system. In the second stage a finite element model was generated using solid elements. Upon analyzing the magnitude of stresses and deflections were found to be much lower in case of static analysis. Stresses and deformations from transient dynamic and seismic analysis were also well within limits.
